The Trebuchet was designed as a partner for the Centurion. While the Centurion is a primarily medium to short range design, the Trebuchet fills the role of a long range support 'Mech.
The TBT-3C is the original Star League model. Two LRM 15s are equipped with Artemis IV FCS, giving the 'Mech increased accuracy. Ammunition is also double relative to the later -5N design. An additional Medium Laser increases its ability to continue in the fight once the LRMs run dry. The advanced technologies used in the design were lost after the fall of the Star League and the onset of the Succession Wars which resulted in the downgraded -5N design being produced.

The TBT-5J trades away a single LRM 15 for Jump Jets. This allows the Trebuchet to reach prime long range fire positions easily and the ability to escape tight situations.
The TBT-5N fills the roles of a long range support 'Mech with two LRM 15s, which gives it the same long range striking power as the heavy class Catapult CLPT-C1. For close range, three Medium Lasers allows the 'Mech to defend itself. However this mech carries a single ton of LRM ammo, and may quickly find itself outside its element.
The TBT-7K again moves away from the standard Trebuchet role of a missile design to a direct fire design. The PPC and AC/5 share a similar range profile and gives the 'Mech the ability continue to engage at long ranges when the ammo runs dry. A SRM2 is added for defense.

The TBT-7M is the latest Trebuchet model. It sees a return to dual LRM racks as its primary weapons. A new Narc Beacon allows the 'Mech to spot for both itself and other friendly missile equipped designs. Jump Jets give the 'Mech increased maneuverability. Ten Double Heat Sinks keep the design cool as well. Weight is freed up for the model by including an advanced XL Engine and lightweight Endo Steel structure.
The TBT-LG "Loup de Guerre" Hero Mech has more missile hardpoints than any other Trebuchet variant, and does not suffer from missile tube limitations. It includes Jump Jets and comes stock with Endo Steel, Double Heat Sinks, and an XL Engine. Like all Hero Mechs, the Loup de Guerre grants a 30% bonus.
