The Particle Projection Cannon is a unique hard-hitting energy weapon. Unlike Lasers which have a firing duration over which damage is dealt, PPC weapons will inflict all of their damage at once, into a single part of the enemy 'Mech. Since the PPC has a feedback effect when focusing on targets at close range, a field inhibitor limiter will engage at ranges below 90m to prevent damage to the weapon and the firing 'Mech. Thus, at ranges below 90 meters, the PPC inflicts no damage.
PPCs have an EMP effect that will disable the ECM of targets hit by a PPC bolt for 4 seconds. The PPC is subject to Heat Scaling and will suffer from additional heat if fired en masse.
When a PPC or ER PPC projectile hits an ECM carrying `Mech, the ECM is disabled for 4 seconds.
The ECM disabled time does not accumulate with successive shots.
If a `Mech is hit with a PPC or ER PPC while their ECM is already disabled, the disabled timer returns to 4 seconds.
PPCs are very effective medium to long range weapons; between a range of 90m to 540m, the PPC behaves identically to the ER PPC, while generating less heat, however the ER PPC will damage targets within 90m.
It is best to carry back-up weapons since an observant adversary can take advantage of the minimum range of these weapons.
