While it is mainly seen mowing down infantry, the machine gun's incredible versatility has seen it put on 'Mechs. The light machine gun's ability to fire continuously without generating heat makes it a useful asset in any MechWarriors arsenal. Light machine guns are particularly useful in quad mountings like in the Cicada or the Spider. Their rapid fire makes them prime candidates for making "critical hits".

Currently, the Light Machine Gun does very little damage, even less than the Machine Gun or the Heavy Machine Gun, but makes up for it with better range. Like the Machine Gun and Heavy Machine Gun, it does incredible damage to internal structural components. It has a 39% chance to deal 1 Critical Hit, 22% chance to deal 2 critical hits, and 6% chance to deal 3 critical hits. If used correctly the machine guns can be used to devastate even Assault 'Mechs. A single Heavy Machine Gun will use 700 rounds per minute when fired continuously.
