System Requirements

These are the specifications your PC should meet[1] in order to play MechWarrior Online.

Summary: unless you game for a living, your machine won't make it!

Minimum

This build is not likely to achieve more then 30 FPS and if background applications are running, they will most likely be noticed by an increased lag.

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 2.66 GHz or AMD Athlon II X2 245e
GPU: Nvidia GeForce 8800GT or AMD Radeon HD 5650
RAM: 4 GB
OS: Windows XP 32-bit SP3
DirectX: DX9
HDD Space: 4 GB

Recommended

This system will play MWO. The graphics may have to be turned down a little to either avoid overheat (even GTX 560s can overheat so be careful) or allow for a playable frame rate.

CPU: Intel Core i3-2500 or AMD Athlon II X4 650
GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 285 or AMD Radeon HD 5830
RAM: 8 GB
OS: Windows 7 64-bit w/Service Pack 1
DirectX: DX9
HDD Space: 4 GB

Proven System

The "Proven System" (by MeepSire, leave questions & comments) is an outline of a computer that WILL play MWO well, i.e. an Intel i3 2120 combined with a GTX 560 uses ~70% of CPU power and will give 60+ fps - depending on graphics settings.

CPU: Intel i3-2150 or higher / AMD Athlon X4 650 or higher
GPU: Nvidia GTX 560+ / GTX 650+ / ATI Radeon 6000 / 7000 series
RAM: ~8 GB DDR3 (Dual or Single Channel is ok) (DDR2 can work, but will be slower)
OS: Windows 7 64-bit with Service Pack 1
DirectX: DX 9-11
Rec. HDD: 7200 RPM 4-5 GB free

Recommendations

  • MWO is slightly more optimized for Nvidia graphics cards, especially the GTX 600 series.
  • SLI / Crossfire are not supported - yet.
  • Older graphics cards have been known to overheat from playing the MWO beta.
  • Little or nothing has been said about Windows 8 or any other OS (excluding WinXP). Using them for MWO is not recommended...
  • Integrated (OnBoard) graphics cards currently produce low frame rates, using them is not reccomended.

Installation

  1. Register and login at Mech Warrior Online to download the game-launcher. (Note: the name you register will be your ingame identity)
  2. Download, install and run game-launcher (~10 MB)
  3. Click on 'Patch': Launcher downloads and installs game-client and recent updates (1,6 GB) (patience adviced)
  4. Get ready to enter the Home Screen

Performance Tips

Performance is measured in Frames Per Second (FPS); shift-F11 toggles display.

  • Set your computer's 'Power Managment' to 'Performance'.
  • Update to latest graphics card driver (http://www.geforce.com/drivers).
  • Set game to windowed fullscreen (game options).
