Overview[]

First introduced in 2760 by the Terran Hegemony, the Extended-Range Particle Projector Cannon, or ER PPC for short, has a greatly increased range than that of a standard PPC. Like the standard PPC, the ER PPC will apply all of its damage at once in a single location quite unlike Lasers. It is capable of causing extreme damage at long range, however it generates a tremendous amount of heat, and so can be difficult to use effectively. The EMP effect of the ER PPC disable ECM on 'Mechs hit by its blast. The ER PPC is subject to heat penalty's if fired in a group of more than two at once.

Improved focusing mechanisms mean that unlike the standard PPC, the ER PPC also has the notable advantage of having no minimum effective range. The ER PPC can deal full damage even to targets at point blank range[3].

  • When a PPC or ER PPC projectile hits an ECM carrying `Mech, the ECM is disabled for 4 seconds.
  • The ECM disabled time does not accumulate with successive shots.
  • If a `Mech is hit with a PPC or ER PPC while their ECM is already disabled, the disabled timer returns to 4 seconds.

The ER PPC is an excellent long range weapon, capable of engaging targets at great distances owing to its long range and high projectile velocity, and the lack of dependence on ammunition allows a MechWarrior to fire repeatedly without fear of ammo depletion. In addition, unlike lasers that have a beam duration, PPC bolts concentrate their full damage into a single location on an enemy 'Mech. However, its massive heat generation (highest of any weapon in MWO) needs to be taken into account both in the MechBay and on the battlefield.
