Collaberation Sandbox/Work Area[edit | edit source]

Incomplete[edit | edit source]

Clan Mechs[edit | edit source]

I'll start building the pages, to get a head start when they make an appearance. PLEASE DO NOT LINK THE CLAN STUFF UNTILL RELEASE, THX :) I might make a "Classified" or off limits tag that redirects the casual user (you can still click the redirect text and go to the page) to the homepage or notice until release, since the Clan stuff is supposed to be "Secret" lol==MeepSire (talk) 07:43, 1 February 2013 (UTC)

New Hero Mech[edit | edit source]

Awesome Hero 'Mech needs to be added.

Done. Still working on it though, I'll ad pic when I'm back at my PC. (half my edits are made on an iPad 1) :) ==MeepSire (talk) 07:15, 30 January 2013 (UTC)
Awesome AWS-PB ==Fleur (talk) 09:35, 30 January 2013 (UTC)

Weapon Spread[edit | edit source]

I've taken screenshots (using Fraps btw). Now I just need to get an image of an Atlas next to the building for scaling and then I can make a rough estimate of the spread of SRMs and LBX autocannons.

JSYK the image (as of posting) is hidden to the public.--Peckham33 talk Help is always given to those who ask for it 06:02, 30 January 2013 (UTC)
I made it public, but it hid the names of the images that identifies what is being fired and at what range. Something odd that I did notice was that sometimes the SRM4 would have a wider spread than the SRM 6. The SRM 2 usually was pretty tight though. It makes me wonder if all three SRMs share the same spread, but each missile will have a greater change of hitting center target. If so, the SRM 6 would show a wider spread per shot, but might not have any worse spread than an SRM 2 fired three times in a row at the same target. In the files, all three weapons do have the same spread, so it might merit some more testing tomorrow.--Seth (talk) 06:51, 30 January 2013 (UTC)
yeah I did notice the weird SRM spreads, my 3L has a SRM 4 and a SRM 6. But when fired one by one out of a NARC tube, the SRM 4s accuracy was similar to the SRM 6. ==MeepSire (talk) 06:55, 30 January 2013 (UTC)

Transfer Bug Reports[edit | edit source]

The hosting transfer has been completed, please report any bugs you find here

  • Known Issues
  • RSS Feed missing from front page
  • Flash Player missing from front page
  • cant remember if it wsa there, but this page claims to have had some big-brother-badge MediaWiki:Pagename
  • -- 'Forms' extension seems to be gone completely, which is bad for unit's maintenance
at Special:Properties the {.} looks bad
What does this mean?--Seth (talk) 01:37, 26 January 2013 (UTC)
That you havent followed the link to read what the post says: "The wiki has moved to another server. If you bookmarked the page, the link might lead to an 404..."
Assuming (that there's many less PC-affine folks and) many other bookmarks might be broken too, I made a little post in the forum, just to say the wiki is alive; and to have a recent post to appear in the forum; attraction might get readers/editors to the wiki. (Fleur, 26.1. 7:43 CET)
I didn't ask what it said, I asked what it meant. What bookmark doesn't work? Can you post the URL here? The only bookmark I have is for the recent changes page which still works.--Seth (talk) 16:41, 26 January 2013 (UTC)
Aye^^, sry, sure, was too unprecise: my browser's bookmark to the main page, any deeplink I would not have estimated worth to mention, and I cant tell u anymore what the link was, except 'main page', something behind the .org is different now. (Fleur)
URLs for pages were changed to make them shorter and easier to read. For example, the url to the Atlas used to be [1] and now it's [2]. Links using the old format should still work though. If you come across one that isn't working, let me know so I can look into it. --Seth (talk) 05:37, 27 January 2013 (UTC)
  • The Factions (not the page) still dont look like they used to: infoboxaction wants attention.
  • The problem with the faction pages is the it made use of an old extension that is no longer supported in this newer version of Mediawiki. I'll make it one of my projects today to go through them and clean them up. --Seth (talk) 16:41, 26 January 2013 (UTC)
I replaced the old image link code with a simple image link that should do the same thing. The overall info box needs an updated look though since it looks like the original table style rather than the current type on the Mech and Weapons pages.--Seth (talk) 05:37, 27 January 2013 (UTC)

Errors that have been fixed[edit | edit source]

  • Fixed xD
  • Layout on mobile browser

  • Fixed
  • Fixed
  • + server resets connection every minute ... but I get my error-messages much faster now ... (update: seems to have stopped)
I noticed this last night as well
I'm noticing the bug as well, got to pull out the old habit of copy paist.--Peckham33 talk Help is always given to those who ask for it 16:42, 23 January 2013 (UTC)
  • Fixed
  • + upload not working (update: upload succesful, 23.1.13 18:05 CET)
  • Fixed
  • - alignment is gone; what was right is left, what was centered is left, i.e. Centurion
Some css got reset to Mediawiki default. I'll fix it.--Seth (talk) 15:41, 24 January 2013 (UTC)

everything everwhere[edit | edit source]

Whoever made "BattleMech Hardpoint List" and "Chassis Attributes Table", brilliant thingy. I tried to expand it to be selective (Template:Footer), but havent made it so far ... and am unsure if the effort is worth it, if u like the idea:

Can we cut the info down a bit, just for the Mech pages? I.e.: if on any Catapult-page, only the catapults are shown (not collapsible, just 2 short lists about the shown Mech family). Because a Catapult is also in: Category:Medium BattleMechs, Category:Playable Medium BattleMechs, Category:65 Tons and Category:Playable. And showing more comprehensive lists there would be more appropriate, imho (respectively having some decent content at all to show up there); like all mediums Mechs showing at Category:Medium BattleMechs (still not collapsible - the collapsible view would be for even more comprehensive overviews, like Mechs). (And, yes, I already figured out, that this isnt possible right now, cuz the Mech 'families' cant be filtered by now, for there's no such property ... or would model::cplt* work^^ - right, or should I better go hide and learn?). =Fleur, 20.1.13 9:00 CET

Because the Catapult 'Mech pages are under the category of "Catapult", it is possible to show only the Catapult hardpoints on the Catapult pages. The hard part will be figuring out how to display all the other 'Mechs in the collapsed section. I'll work on it tomorrow.--Seth 18:07, 20 January 2013 (CST)
Stupid me, with the 'family-name' as a category it's possible now; that was y I wanted them and found an excuse to have them by sorting the images. I should have a look again at it ... imho, there's no need to show the other Mechs: Mech-page should show hardpoint list & specs of the given model-family (only), and the more one moves up in the Mech-branch, the more Mechs are shown. - cant play anyway, since last update it's a slideshow; xp weekend was a how-to-get-fps-above-10-weekend, making damage like being first time in a Mech. I'll abuse Anni again; getting light Mechs back into the list, when I expect assaults =Fleur

SVG[edit | edit source]

thx, svg upload is possible now, but ... dunno why, transparency isnt working (bad for an overlay), might have to do with wiki's black instead of a white bgr? 1 white, red rounded rectangle.svg ... Grid 99, 100 int red 50 int yellow (940).svg ... I made sure to upload real svg files, not bitmapped stuff, so no clue where the white backgrounds comes from. One file does fill="white", the other fill="none", both have no transparency. =Fleur

I've not worked with svg files before, so I can't speak on why transparency isn't working. I would suggest testing them by opening them in your browser from where they are saved on your computer to be sure that the issue isn't with mediawiki. I did some googling, and transparency in svg isn't as straight forward as png files.--Seth 16:45, 15 January 2013 (CST)
SVG is a plain text file format, describing geometric primitives ... I checked the file to work properly before uploading it: [here].-Fleur

Media[edit | edit source]

FYI: updated Media, put every pic in some sort of category ... i dont like to browse the file list each time looking for some pic, now they're sorted by topic, somehow.

Units[edit | edit source]

  • How do ppl find their way to register units? Units may be a variant ...could be mentioned and shown there: how to update their pics, instead of uploading new ones, etc.
  • unit quality campaign:
  • next i'll browse through the units (if u dont stop me) and mark every unit 'inactive', which has a 404-URL given
  • top units should be featured ... unit search/register extended, esp. with languages ... dunno how to highlight the good guys yet, maybe feature unit of the week on homepage, but giving players an aid to get into a good unit, instead of founding their 2 men party, could be a way to make this wiki favourited over the forum by players, cuz forum cant do what wiki can.
How about adding tag to the top of the page warning the authors that the page is out of date and will be deleted in two weeks if relevant information like a logo and url aren't added. I can create a tag that will track when the page was tagged with a warning and we can view the list of pages with that tag in a table that will sort by when the warning was added. Give me a few days on that though. The server transfer has started today and the final migration should take place in a day or two.--Seth 16:50, 15 January 2013 (CST)
I created a tag for the tops of unit pages that look abandoned. Add the following tag to the top of abandoned unit pages;
{{Unit Page Notice |reason= }}
Add a reason in the correct field so that they can be easily tracked. The time the tag was added is automatically generated when the page is saved. A table listing these pages can be found on Category:Tagged Unit Page. This page has table that lists the unit pages that have been tagged and displays the date and reason the pages were tagged. The pages should be deleted after two weeks if the original author hasn't updated and removed the tag.--Seth 01:24, 16 January 2013 (CST)
Idea and its implementation are great, only concerns: url isnt mandatory, so y kick units without url? (having an 404-url is something different) ... 2 weeks is quite a short period, I assume ppl dont check their unit page often, there's not much to c.
My concern is that the list of units is so big now (over 200) that it is overwhelming. I don't really think having a logo should be mandatory either, but the majority (all?) of pages without them were created by unregistered users and haven't been updated in months. I'll add some rules to the form when I try to fix the unit name field. I'll extend it to a month. --Seth 08:07, 16 January 2013 (CST)

Namespace[edit | edit source]

The namespace seems to be missing, look here: Unit:Hard Corp.. Think some ftp access is needed: custom namspaces - with a proper set up namespace, it should be avoidable to let users enter twice the unit's name when creating them.==Fleur (talk) 20:28, 28 January 2013 (UTC)

Unit Page Protection[edit | edit source]

  • found this on a unit's page:
Hello, thanks for adding your unit to the MWOwiki. I've added protection to all Online Unit pages to protect them from anonymous vandalism.
Additionally, you can monitor your pages for changes made by people other than yourself. To do so follow these steps:
  1. Go to your page and click "WATCH" in the bar near the top of the page.
  2. Go to you "my preferences" link at the top of the page.
  3. Check the box for "E-mail me when a page on my watchlist is changed".
If you have any comments, suggestion, or complaints, feel free to contact me at my talk page.--Seth 01:19, 29 December 2011 (MST)

No idea if the protection is still active, but I like the idea of a template for new users/units, to give a brief help like this ... on basic editing. (Fleur, 26.1. 8:28 CET)

nice to have[edit | edit source]

a thought fixed; as in its history can be seen here Unit:Kong Interstellar Security Solutions, ppl have different usr names than they want to have in their unit listing. but, imho, the given names should lead to usr-pages. somehow, make it possible for them to enter: rank, call sign, pre&surname, which are properly shown in the listing and still lead an usr-page.

rank, callsign, display OR main name: Unit:lorem ipsum ==Fleur (talk) 16:38, 31 January 2013 (UTC)

Battlegrid[edit | edit source]

This guy was asking for a battlegrid guide, and we don't have one yet. [ mwomercs.com/forums/topic/90114-command-console-instructions/ link]

updated Command Console and created Battlegrid. Not rly finished, started wondering what happens when more than one command is assigned. =Fleur
ill se what i can do...

Missile Launcher Size[edit | edit source]

  • Some 'Mechs come with launchers of different size. Adding an LRM 20 to a hardpoint that on the default loadout held an SRM causes the missiles to be launched in a stream. However, adding an LRM 20 to a 'Mech that by default held an LRM 20 will cause all missiles to launch at once. This effect is most noticeable on 'Mechs like the Stalker STK-5M and Raven RVN-3L that came with NARC Beacon launchers. Those launchers will cause missiles to stream out one at a time. Maybe a game play video showing this in action would be a good idea. I'll have to fire up FRAPs tomorrow.
I'll see what I can do when I get back from vacation. (I do have a 3L) ==MeepSire (talk) 16:20, 5 April 2013 (UTC)

Weapon Bay Doors[edit | edit source]

I'll take care of this and the Tube-count stuff. ==MeepSire 01:49, 18 January 2013 (CST)

Guides[edit | edit source]

  • The MWO Primer badly needs to be updated or just removed altogether.

Need icons for these different number tables, then it can be added to the main menu.

Added some pics and put it on 'homepage' (hope that's ur 'main menu') ... but 'engine' and 'weapons' is now pretty much the same within the two button rows. ==Fleur, 7.1.2013, 16:03 CET
Ok, what I think I'll do for the compendia row is have all four of the different buttons link to different sections of the same At a Glance page.--Seth 00:26, 11 January 2013 (CST)

Unit Listings[edit | edit source]

  • Create a "stagnant page" template to display on unit listing pages that have gone unfinished (missing logo, urls, ect...) and haven't been updated in months.
  • Fix template so that the CO name points to "User:Name" rather than just create a page of that user's name.

Featured Article[edit | edit source]

I created the redirect. Should we put this up on the Main Page yet? The redirect currently goes to my user page (the first thing that came to mind when I made it...) We'll have to edit the Redirect but it's not too hard... ==MeepSire 03:00, 30 November 2012 (CST)

Where's the link?--Seth 16:53, 30 November 2012 (CST)
below under CSWA sandbox. ==MeepSire 19:44, 30 November 2012 (CST)
Any plans for it yet? ==MeepSire
  • I would like to revisit this idea. The left hand side of the main page is quite a bit shorter than the right hand side.--Seth 23:35, 7 January 2013 (CST)

Maps[edit | edit source]

  • Add images from the maps
    • Get permission from the author of this thread to add his images to the maps pages.
      • we ask later, already created overlays with the related Heat Maps, but unsure how to present them. filesize is perfect for coordinates with overlays; think it might help with description of tactics, etc.
        • I've gotten permission from him, just let's make sure to site that thread in any page where we use them (credit given where credit is due). I took a look at that extension and it could be a good way to automatically generate grids over the plain map images we can get from the files. That extension page also linked to this extension which could be very interesting for star maps or maybe analyzing a 'Mechs loadout.--Seth 16:35, 11 January 2013 (CST)
  • [Fleur:] Forest Colony and Maps as a little preview ... I assume, they'll reuse the maps: if it goes for planets, there'll be the same map with slightly different gravitation, population, temperature, etc. - so it does not make sense to paste some infos to the maps, instead planets should be introduced, having properties ... and a map sticked to it. - I looked at sarna about some stuff, but I think I have too little knowledge about BT to get things like 'star type', 'recharging station', 'socio-industrial level', etc on a row. => namespace:planet (25.1.13 CET 13:10)
Should we add "Upcoming Maps?" Alpine peaks and Desert are coming... ++MeepSire (talk) 02:59, 29 January 2013 (UTC)

Dictionary[edit | edit source]

Wow, those are really useful special pages! The vast majority of the pages on the lonely pages are those for the Template:Timeline page. Those will be nice to have for the relevant updates appear on the different faction pages. I haven't had the time to keep up with it though, but I have help coming with that soon.--Seth 21:05, 27 November 2012 (CST)
I'm Working on some of the top ones, wow, some important stuff too... ==MeepSire 18:22, 28 November 2012 (CST)

Incomplete Work for Seth[edit | edit source]

Battlemech Class Pages[edit | edit source]

Fix the template to use a hardpoint list like the individual mech pages.

Spreadsheet Form[edit | edit source]

Create a form for people to create their own spreadsheets.

WIP Category[edit | edit source]

Go through the WIP category and clean up all BattleMech pages

  • Light 'Mechs completed

Guides[edit | edit source]

I need to create a new namespace for "Guides:" with a tag at the top that the guide is the opinion of the author and may not be 100% accurate.--Seth 16:56, 15 January 2013 (CST)

Overall Look/Layout[edit | edit source]

Needs to be overhauled

Big Stuff[edit | edit source]

  • Revisit my old idea of adding critical spaces loadout that I had played with earlier this year on the Sandbox page.

Crit Space Layout[edit | edit source]

  • I'll begin to add crit space layouts on each 'Mechs page using the form/template that is used on my projects page. I'll probably put them into an auto-collapsing navbox table defaulted to collapse to save room.--Seth 20:02, 11 December 2012 (CST)
